2009-11-18: The State Of The Album
It has been a while since I talked to you here... I thought I'd just inform you a little of where we're at for the moment:
Last week, Mathias addes the rest of his keyboards except for some tiny things on one or two songs, and Patrik added the percussion for all the songs, and we have just received the first sort of "test-mix" on the song Forever Damned. And it sounds pretty fucking amazing already...
I was actually a bit surprised (and relieved), because when you been working on something for such a long time, writing songs, rehearsing them, recording them, putting on vocals, overdubs, backing vocals, and then re-doing stuff that didn't really work out, it's very easy to loose touch with reality after a while. Especially when you're such self critics as we are in this band. We won't put out anything that we are not 100% proud of. So what happens is that after a while, you just don't know anymore... you can't look at the songs the way you did when you first wrote them. It's just impossible.
It was the same way with the first album, after playing them live and hearing them, and reading other peoples opinions about them I just couldn't stand it anymore. But now the last week, my son Ossian who is 1,5 has discovered the album, he listens to it every night before he goes to sleep so I just had to listen to it again. And it struck me that it is a pretty good album.
So now I just want to have this one ready so I will be able to look back on this album with sober ears as well.
So this weekend, I'm going down to Stockholm to go through all the songs with mr. Karlegård once more, and do some muting, panning, and levels and stuff before he goes into serious mixing mode. Peter is also coming down to re-do some guitars that had the wrong sound to them.
So a February release is out of the question I am afraid. But you might have figured that out already. I'll let you know when we have a release date. I promise this won't turn into a Chinese Democrazy thing. And I also think we made a much better album than that one, but that's just my opinion...
